In order to hold a certificate as a Registered Optician, opticians are required to demonstrate that they are current. A Registered Optician is considered current if they have engaged in at least 500 practice hours within the the previous 3-year period.
"Currency" means obtaining a certain amount of recent practice experience that confirms that an optician's knowledge and skills are up to date. Currency is a way to assess whether the optician will practice safely, competently, and ethically on an ongoing basis.
