The New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NJCASA) is currently accepting multiple new members for our Community Council. The Community Council is a cohort in which members represent the voices and priorities of diverse communities across New Jersey. Council members inform our work serving survivors of sexual violence, promoting prevention practices, and meeting the broader needs of our communities—particularly of historically marginalized populations typically most impacted by sexual violence. We are presently looking to several new council members.
Please note: Community Council is not a governing body of NJCASA, nor are its members employees of NJCASA.
Beginning in October 2026, Council members meet virtually six times per year (bi-monthly 2-hour meetings) and must attend at least 2/3rd of those meetings. Stipends of $2,500 will be provided. On-going compensation for the following years will be determined based on the availability of funds. Meetings are two hours long and occur on weekday evenings. Cameras are expected to be turned on during Council meetings, to encourage active participation and community-building.
NJCASA is committed to an equitable selection process that prioritizes representation of diverse community perspectives on the council, ideally including individuals who work in fields/spaces that serve survivors either directly or indirectly, including but not limited to the following: prison reform advocates, faith-based leaders, educators, medical professionals, disability justice advocates, LGBTQIA+ leaders, immigrant rights advocates, culturally specific service providers, and other community-based leaders. Applicants must be based in New Jersey.
Council Focus (2026-2027):
Council Goal: To bring together a group of diverse stakeholders from communities across New Jersey to cultivate alignment of efforts and a vision for a safer, more equitable Garden State.
Council Objectives: To develop recommendations, expand awareness, amplify networks, and foster mutual/reciprocal support.
Council Expectations: to lead bimonthly meetings, share data and innovative practices, and collaborate on an annual project. This year’s project will focus on building robust community partnerships to address the intersectional needs of those we serve.
The application is due by July 31st, 2026. Please note that after completing the application you may be requested to meet for a brief interview via Zoom.
