Bestowing WEDI Awards is a longstanding tradition that recognizes volunteer members and organizations that have gone above and beyond to make positive changes to our nation’s health care system. Award winners are nominated by their peers, which makes the honor even more meaningful. 

Previous award winners and a pdf of the 2022 awards are included in the WEDI Hall of Fame.

Question Title

* 1. Health IT Champion – The Louis Sullivan Award
Named in honor of the former HHS Secretary Louis Sullivan who was instrumental in the creation of WEDI and initiating the healthcare industry’s ongoing commitment to improving health care through the development of standards for administrative simplification. This award recognizes an individual who has distinguished themselves through their leadership, vision, and achievements in advancing the efficiency of health care.

Criteria:
Viewed as a national leader.
Plays an integral role in advancing the efficiency of health care.
Demonstrates a commitment to WEDI’s mission.
Does not have to be a WEDI member.

Question Title

* 2. Leadership in Volunteerism - The Andrew Melczer Award
Named in honor of the late Andrew Melczer who committed his career to health care and devoted his life to helping, teaching, and sharing with others. This award recognizes an individual who has provided exemplary service by giving their time to WEDI and the health care IT industry on a national basis. Andrew Melczer exemplified these characteristics through his volunteerism with WEDI.

Criteria:
Has held multiple leadership roles in WEDI, such as workgroup or subworkgroup co- chair, Board member, Board committee co-chair, Board officer.
Demonstrates a commitment to WEDI’s mission.
Played a key role in several WEDI outputs, such as published papers, education (conference planning, conference presenter, webinar presenter), comment letters, or other key WEDI roles.

* 3. Distinguished Service – The Steve Lazarus Award
Named in honor of Steve Lazarus, who was a former WEDI Board Chair and exceptional volunteer. This award recognizes an individual who has provided significant leadership to the fulfillment of the mission, objectives, programs, and overall volunteer activities of WEDI through participation in committees, workgroups, Board of Directors, and events.

Criteria:
Has served on the WEDI Board.
Demonstrates a commitment to WEDI.
Demonstrates leadership and inspires others within WEDI.
Demonstrates exceptional performance in WEDI leadership responsibilities.
Volunteers and participates in committees, task groups, workgroups, or events.

Question Title

* 4. Innovation in Health IT Award
Recognizes provider, health plan and/or vendor organizations that created and/or implemented an innovative solution that addressed an administrative data exchange challenge this past year.

Criteria:
Must be a WEDI member company or organization.
Created/implemented an innovative technology or solution to advance administrative efficiency, automation in health data exchange and/or processing.

Question Title

* 5. Excellence in Service Award
Recognizes members who have made a real difference within WEDI through their contributions this past year. This award distinguishes those who have gone above and beyond to support their workgroup, subworkgroup, committee or task group through their commitment, leadership, team play, and productivity.

Criteria:
Actively participates in a workgroup, subworkgroup, committee, or task group as a WEDI member.
Contributes to WEDI’s productivity through presentations, published papers, surveys, or comments letters.
