Welcome to the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) - Library and Archives Canada (LAC) Joint Facility Indigenous Engagement Survey.

OPL and LAC are partnering to develop a new joint facility that will house OPL’s new Central Library and LAC public services. The Canadian architects Diamond Schmitt Architects and Ottawa’s KWC Architects were awarded the contract to design the future OPL-LAC joint facility scheduled to open in late 2024 near LeBreton Flats, in downtown Ottawa.

OPL and LAC conducted numerous public engagement sessions in Ottawa in 2019 as well as with the Anishinabeg, of the Algonquin nations on whose traditional territory the joint facility will be located, to gather input on the design of the facility and the various spaces throughout. Click here for more information on the Algonquin engagements and input into the joint facility.

An Indigenous community engagement session, scheduled for April 2020 in Ottawa, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This survey is a way for Indigenous peoples in the Ottawa-Gatineau area and across Canada to provide ideas, suggestions and input into the new joint facility including the design of the indoor and outdoor spaces as well as the programs and services offered.
