EirGrid is the national government agency which develops, manages, and operates Ireland’s electricity grid. EirGrid will be establishing the East Meath North Dublin Grid Upgrade Community Benefit Fund in recognition of the importance of working closely with communities in the completion of the East Meath North Dublin Grid Upgrade. This project is a high-capacity 400 kV underground electricity cable between the Woodland substation, near Batterstown in Co Meath, to Belcamp substation, near Clonshaugh in north Dublin. This upgrade will strengthen the electricity grid in the east of Meath and the north of Dublin to improve the transfer of power across the existing transmission network.More information on the project can be found on EirGrid’s website

The East Meath North Dublin Grid Upgrade Community Benefit Fund will provide €3,478,800 in grants to local community groups, not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises that operate or service communities within 2km of this new electricity infrastructure, to deliver projects that will create positive social and environmental impacts. The overall aim of the fund will be to increase public and environmental wellbeing in the community and to leave a positive legacy.
The funding will be delivered in 3 phases. The first phase of funding is €1,391,520 and will be equally distributed under the following 3 streams to projects which align with these streams;
Community Stream - €463,840 - Phase 1 Funding
Sustainability Stream - €463,840 - Phase 1 Funding
Biodiversity Stream - €463,840 - Phase 1 Funding
M-CO has been appointed by EirGrid as the Fund Administrators to oversee the strategy development, management, administration, and delivery of the fund.
To ensure that the fund is designed for the local community, by the local community, EirGrid and MCO are inviting local community and voluntary groups, individuals and local stakeholders to take part in a consultation process to explore the needs and priorities of the local area. As part of this engagement, you are invited to share your thoughts and ideas.
This survey should take no more than ten minutes and will remain open from 8th Oct 2025 until 19th Nov 2025.
