Pontiac Trail Layout Options
The design team has reviewed the priorities in the Complete Green Streets Guide to determine the improvements for the neighborhood street Pontiac Trail. This type of street has a High Priority Walk Zone, so sidewalks are recommended on both sides. The guide also calls for wide terraces to help preserve existing canopy trees while creating space to plant new ones where possible, consistent with its Medium Priority Flex Zone guidance. Beyond that, the design guide gives some flexibility as to what widths and how much street parking will be included in the final design. This is what we are looking for feedback on through this questionnaire, which presents Options 1 and 2.
Option 1
24’ wide street from face of curb to face of curb with on-street parking on one side of the street (most likely the west/northwest side). Sidewalk on both sides of the street. This design creates a “yield street,” which means that when a car is parked along the curb, vehicles traveling in opposite directions would need to slow down and wait for each other to pass.
