Weymouth Town Council is seeking residents’ views on the possible introduction of 20mph speed limits in parts of Weymouth.
The Council is proposing a phased approach. Phase One will focus on areas around local schools, with the aim of making it safer and easier for children, families and residents to walk, wheel and cycle.
Feedback is sought on the eight proposed Phase One areas listed below, as well as any other locations you think should be considered in future phases.
Following this engagement, areas that receive strong community support may be put forward in a formal application to Dorset Council. As the highways authority, Dorset Council will then consult with statutory stakeholders and decide whether the scheme can progress to the next stage of the formal legal process required to introduce new speed limits.
You can find more information about Dorset Council’s 20mph policy here. This explains how schemes are assessed and references the potential benefits, including improving quality of life, encouraging healthier lifestyles, supporting sustainability and strengthening local communities.
Proposed Phase One Areas include:
A – Town Centre Extension
B – Wyke Regis (East of Portland Road)
C – Wyke Regis (West of Portland Road)
D – Southill
E – Radipole
F – Littlemoor
G – Coombe Valley
H – Lodmoor South
Please review the maps of these areas before submitting your response.
Deadline for comments is 5pm on Monday 20th July.
