Consultation - Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in patient care

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to benefit patients and doctors in many aspects of medical practice, including diagnosis, treatment options, clinical documentation, and by performing tasks that improve quality, access, and efficiency.

However, AI is also a new and evolving technology. In relation to health care, it is vital that AI is used responsibly and in ways that maintain patient safety and quality of care.

Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in patient care outlines what Council expects when doctors use AI in patient care. As it is a new statement that Council is developing, we would value your input on our draft.

The consultation closes on Wednesday 29 October 2025.
