Community Survey

The Project

The Perley Health Board of Directors has approved the Concept Plan to proceed with the next phase of design and development. We look forward to welcoming 120 new residents into the Perley Health community in 2028 (estimated) in a modern, thoughtfully designed six-storey Long-Term Care Home on the confirmed location.

The Perley design and planning teams are now working through the technical details, which include finalizing all elements of the structure, landscaping and interior design to prepare for the review by the MLTC, Infrastructure Ontario and City of Ottawa's Site Plan Control Review process in the coming months.

And we want to hear from our community!

We have developed a survey to help ensure our work reflects the values and needs of our diverse community of care. This survey will only take a few minutes to complete and your feedback is greatly appreciated.

2.Overall, what best describes your relationship to Perley Health? (Select one)

It is an important part of my daily life and I have a high interest in what happens at Perley Health.

I have occasion to visit Perley Health fairly often, at least once a week.

I support Perley Health by visiting the campus about once a month.

I support Perley Health by attending specific events a few times each year.

I consider Perley Health part of our community but have rarely visited in-person.

I did not hear of Perley health before this survey.

3.How likely are you to use outdoor pathways, sitting areas or other amenities on the Perley Health campus? (Select one)

Very likely – they are an important part of my daily lifestyle.

Will use sometimes and I really value them.

I like to see the view out the window but I seldom use these areas.

Views and sunlight are very important to me but I don`t use the outdoor areas very often.

I prefer to focus on indoor pursuits.

4.Our architecture and design teams are looking at the design of the new long-term care residence and location. We know that trees, the gazebo and some outdoor areas will be disturbed as a result of this construction and expansion. How important is the loss of trees and the gazebo to you? (Select one)

This is the most important impact to me of the project. The loss of trees is very important to me and the long-term care building should be located somewhere else.

I use the gazebo from time to time but think it could be relocated somewhere else on the Perley Health property.

We can create new greenspaces or sitting areas after the project is built – this is not a concern for me.

The loss of mature trees is important to me and it is very important that new trees be planted on the site.

We have enough trees on the Perley campus and I think the investment is better spent on other things.

5.As part of this new expansion there will be a new opportunity to re-build some of the outdoor pathways and plant new trees. Please identify what best describes the pathways for you (Select one)

I use these pathways regularly to go for walks. They are a valuable part of my routine at Perley.

I have used these pathways on occasion.

I think new pathways provide important connections between the buildings and they should be re-built.

I live in the neighbourhood and enjoy going for walks on the Perley Health campus.

I don't know where these pathways are and I have never used them.

6.The new long-term care building will have an access from the link between the Gatineau Residence and Perley Centre, the main hub. This will change the view from the cafeteria as well the Gatineau link and from some of the surrounding buildings. How important are changes in view? (Select one)

This will not impact me.

This will substantially change my view on a day-to-day basis and this will have a big impact on me personally.

I understand the need for the new building and my main concern is blocking sunlight and changing of the view.

I hope to live in the new building and I hope that the impact on the view can be managed by the design team.

This will impact my view, but this is not something that is important to me.

7.Building new long-term care beds will help to support Perley Health and will benefit from our existing programs, staff and community spaces. What would best describe your reaction to the proposal (Select those that apply.):

I have trouble parking at Perley Health and I am concerned that more rooms are going to make parking difficult.

I live in the community and I am concerned that there will be more traffic on Russell Road because of this project.

I am concerned that the kitchen and programs will be too busy and this will impact my enjoyment of the Perley Health programs.

I think new residents and new staff will help to bring more new opportunities and programs to Perley Health and I am excited about this.

I am concerned about the number of seniors looking for long-term care beds and I think this project is very important.

I am looking forward to having a space available at the Perley Health and to participate in the programs and facilities.

I think this project is an important way to support the financial sustainability of the Perley Health campus.

8.Construction of the new long-term care addition is expected to start in late 2026, with new residents expected to move in by end of 2028. During the construction phase there is expected to be some disruption and noise on the outside of the buildings. What best describes your thoughts on the construction period: (Select one)

The noise, trucks, mud and dust are going to be a huge problem and I am worried about this impacting me.

I am concerned about my safety or that of a family member during construction.

I am most concerned about the noise.

I expect some disruption during construction but it is important to get this project built.

I am concerned that the construction will impact parking and my ability to get to work or to visit Perley Health.
