Located prominently along the banks of the Willamette River, and anchored at the southern end of the Downtown Riverfront site, the Steam Plant is an iconic representation of our community’s history and is ripe with possibility for the future. Currently, a local team of community leaders has created a vision for how the Steam Plant could be re-purposed and revitalized.

Draft renderings and video  (SEEN HERE) show cultural space featuring historic boiler #1 and the eye-catching red turbine generators. The building would maintain its existing footprint, add cross-laminated timber internally and rise vertically to five stories to maximize views of the river. An outdoor overlook connects the building to the future adjacent Riverfront Park and the river without impeding the bike path.

The local team, in partnership with the City of Eugene, invite you to take our survey to help us make better, community-informed decisions about this iconic building. The team will use the feedback to refine their proposal for the Steam Plant’s redesign. The information will also be shared with the Eugene City Council later this year, before hopefully finalizing plans and moving forward with construction.

The survey is open for public comment through February 19, 2019. Our goal is that the Steam Plant can become a world-class destination and anchor activity that serves the community, enhances the riverfront experience, recalls the historic nature of the site, and is a building that again creates a sense of pride for our region.
