Are you involved in community organising or grassroots movement building for social justice in Scotland? We’d love for you to respond to our survey!
We are a team of researchers from The Collective, working with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) to explore how funders might best support long-term organising and movement-building here in Scotland.
We’re hoping to hear from a range of groups and individuals that are involved in grassroots organising and movement-building in Scotland, in order to gain an understanding of the social justice ecosystem in Scotland, and what is needed to make this work stronger. This might look like anything from organising demonstrations against the far right or a new oil rig, to supporting migrant communities to come together to seek change, to campaigns to re-open a local train station or library. You might also work for an organisation who provide support to movement-building and grassroots groups, such as giving training or funding to those doing the organising.
We want to understand how people are coming together to build power, what support is available, and where there are gaps.
The survey will take about 10–15 minutes. We won’t ask for any personal details and the majority of questions are skippable if you don't feel comfortable answering.
At the end of the survey, there will be an opportunity for you to voluntarily give your email address, so that we can keep you up to date with the research and the workshops we are running in November, as well as to enter you into a prize draw for £50 worth of vouchers at a shop of your choice!
This survey will close on Monday 24 November at 5pm. Please do share this survey with any colleagues or friends you think might be interested to respond!
More about data privacy and how we will use your responses
By taking part in this survey, you consent to having your responses used in the research in the following way:
Your responses will be stored securely and all data will be deleted within 3 months of project completion. No individual names or email addresses or any other information that could identify you as an individual will be shared beyond The Collective research team.
We will be synthesising the data and sharing the themes that come out from the survey with Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and we will also share our findings back with everyone who has participated. As part of the project we will produce a final short report on supporting community organising and grassroots movement building in Scotland which will be published by JRF.
Other ways to get involved in the project
As part of this research project, we will also be running some interactive online and in-person workshops to collaboratively design potential funding mechanisms and support models in late November.
There is an opportunity at the end of the survey to express your interest in receiving invites to these workshops. The dates and times of the workshops are also included at the end of the survey.
