Call for Nominations - Deadline April 10, 2026

All submission materials must be submitted by 11:59pm Central Time on Tuesday, April 7, 2026
The American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine (SOPPSM) is now accepting nominations for the 202Edwin L. Kendig, Jr Award.
The AAP Section on Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine will recognize one individual for lifetime achievement in the field of pediatric pulmonology. Any pulmonologist (or related specialty) can be nominated for this biannual award. This individual should meet one or more of the following qualifications:
  • Distinguished clinical service and dedication to patient care
  • Significant contribution to clinical or basic science research in the field of pediatric pulmonology
  • Dedication to the education of pediatric pulmonary fellows or students
  • Current members of the Section on Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine Executive Committee may not be nominated.
An inscribed crystal award will be presented at the 2027 Celebration of Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Course.
Nominations must be in writing and should clearly state the basis for the recommendation, including the nominee’s qualifications for the award and providing examples of relevant achievements. Please submit the Nomination Form, letter, list of fellows/trainees that the nominee has trained. Nominations are limited to one per nominator. Please note: previous nominations can be resubmitted with a brief letter indicating nominator and the name of nominee.

  • Two-page maximum.
  • Emphasize the specific talents of the nominee that merit consideration by the selection committee.
  • List and describe some of the nominee’s pertinent activities in the area of education, research, and/or advocacy as it relates to pediatric pulmonology.  (Describe the impact of this work, providing as much detail as necessary to give the selection committee a clear picture of the nominee’s qualifications).
  • Please indicate whether the candidate has previously received awards or special recognition for his or her work.
