IntroductionRecently, Whitecourt Town Council reviewed the current Snow & Ice Control Policy and requested changes to meet our community's growing needs. As a result, the Winter Maintenance Policy was drafted.
This update will shape future service level priorities and standards for our snow response.
Feedback will be collected July 27 through September 4, 2026.
Your feedback will help shape future winter maintenance services and will be shared with Council as part of the review in September 2026.
Did you know?Whitecourt has the following equipment available for winter maintenance:
- 2 graders
- 3 tandem dump trucks (with belly plows and one with a mounted sander)
- 3 loaders
- 2 snow blowers (used on loaders)
- 2 mini loaders (for clearing pathways)
- 2 sweepers (for clearing pathways/facility sidewalks)
- 1 backhoe (for clearing at facilities, fire hydrants, cleanup)
- 1 mini sander (for use on pathways and at facilities)
In addition to the above, Whitecourt also uses 5-10 contract dump trucks and 1-2 contract loaders to complete snow removal activities when there is a major snowfall.
The Town maintains:
- 169 lane kilometres of roadway
- 16 kilometres of pathways
- 18 lane kilometres of alleys
- 43 Public Transit stops
- 16 public buildings and facilities
- 12 public infrastructure facilities
- Public sidewalks adjacent to municipal-owned properties
