2026 Backyard Composter Registration
Local Household Composting Program
The City of Kenora’s Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) continues to work with municipal staff, partners and the community to guide and implement local projects that are outlined in the Sustainability Action Plan. Projects that support local food production and waste reduction are a focus of the Plan and implementing a local household composting initiative is included in this work.
The Sustainability Advisory Committee and the City of Kenora are offering backyard compositing bins to 200 local households for a $10 fee, with the goal of supporting local compositing initiatives and reducing organic waste in our landfill.
Bins will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with one unit allowed per address. Priority will also be given to households that have not received a bin previously.
If you were a successful registrant, you will pay for your composter at City Hall, One Main Street South, between Tuesday, March 17 and Friday, April 10. We are open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and closed on holidays.
Pick up date for successful registrations is Saturday, April 11, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Operations Centre.
If you choose to purchase a backyard composting bin, you will also agree to provide information back to the Sustainability Advisory Committee so it can be evaluated for future development of local composting initiatives.
