For over 40 years now, the National BMX Hall of Fame has honored our sport’s top athletes and influencers. Since 1985, over 190 names of BMX legends have been inducted, and this - right here, right now - is how the Hall of Fame process begins.

STEP-1: Anyone can nominate an individual by fully completing the NOMINATION form. While this is the first step in getting someone inducted into the Hall of Fame, it does not guarantee that your nomination will make it onto the final nominee ballot.
STEP-2: All nomination forms will be reviewed by each Selection Committee and the FINAL-8 nominees will then head to the final voting.
* Each HoF category has its own Selection Committee - made up of knowledgable BMX historians and Hall of Fame alumni.
STEP-3: Once the Final-8 Inductees are chosen, they will be voted on by over 400 voters (made up of HoF inductees, industry people, BMX media and a group of historical BMX experts). Winner takes all - and will be inducted at the HoF Ceremony.

CRITERIA: When considering all Hall of Fame Nominations, the selection committee looks for individuals whose accomplishments and contributions made a serious impact on the sport of BMX at a national level.
Nominees in all categories (except for Industry) are required to be inactive from professional competition for at least five (5) years and be at least 40 years of age. Nominees in the Industry category can still be active in the BMX industry - but must be 40 years old or older.
AUTOMATIC NOMINATIONS: The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers from each category from the previous year will receive an automatic nomination. The automatic nominees from last year's voting are:

EARLY RACER: Rod Beckering, Mat Harris, and Charlie Williams
RACER: Thomas Allier, Dale Holmes, and Matt Hadan
INDUSTRY: Howie Cohen, Jim Jannard, and Charlie Danishek
EARLY FREESTYLE: Pete Augustin, Dave Nourie, and Josh White
FREESTYLE: Taj Mihelich, Stephen Murray, and Mike "Rooftop" Escamilla
WOMAN: Melanie Cline, Bonnie Hutelin, and Kim Johnson

There is no need to re-nominate the people listed above. They are automatically on the 2026 "Great-8" ballot.

CARRY-OVER NOMINATIONS: Nominees from the previous four years will also be carried over automatically.
If you nominated a BMXer in 2020 or earlier, you MAY need to nominate them again.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You only need to nominate a person ONCE.
Multiple nominations for the same person do not increase a person's chances of getting in the Hall of Fame.
