2018-19 Outstanding Teacher-of-the-Year Nomination Form

Dear Teachers, Administrators, Support Staff, Parents and Students,

In a celebration of the profession of teaching, Warren Consolidated Schools presents Outstanding Teachers-of-the-Year awards annually to honor teachers who have achieved the highest standards of excellence in our profession. These awards are created out of a conviction that quality public education is essential to our community and that encouraging excellence in education is the shared responsibility of all who reap its benefits.

With national attention focused on all students meeting high standards, teacher quality is more important than ever. In Charlotte Danielson’s book, Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching, she outlines measures relating to teacher quality organized into four domains, each with several components. These measures are:

-- Planning and Preparation which includes comprehensive understanding of the content to be taught, knowledge of the students’ backgrounds, and designing instruction and assessment.

-- The Classroom Environment is concerned with the teacher’s skill in establishing an environment conducive to learning, including both physical and interpersonal aspects of the environment.

-- Instruction is concerned with the teacher’s skill in engaging students in learning the content, and includes the wide range of instructional strategies that enable students to learn.

-- Professional Responsibilities includes a teacher’s additional professional responsibilities, including self-assessment and reflection, communication with parents, participation in on-going professional development, and contributing to the school and district environment.

Below is the nomination form for the 2018-19 Warren Consolidated Schools’ Outstanding Teachers-of-the-Year. Nominations may be submitted by teachers, administrators, support staff, parents or students. Teachers may not nominate themselves. Nomination forms should be submitted by 4:00pm on Friday, November 16, 2018.

A District committee will select one winner at each level: elementary (grades PreK-5); middle (grades 6-8), and high (grades 9-12) school. Each WCS District nominee will be invited to attend a reception in their honor where they will be recognized along with the public announcement of the three winners at a Board of Education meeting.

The three outstanding Teachers of the Year will represent Warren Consolidated Schools in the annual Macomb County Teacher-of-the-Year Program. A celebration to honor the nominees will be held at the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD) in the spring.
