The State of Oregon is working to comply with basic wage and hour laws that will soon be extended to homecare and personal support workers through the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Our union has significant concerns around some of the proposals being floated by the Department of Human Services. One proposal would cap workers’ paid hours at 40 per week. Another proposal would make drastic changes to the live-in program for consumers and potentially require these consumers to hire additional workers—even when we have a significant shortage of qualified and trained care providers in Oregon.
