Cost of Care survey

Clinical Practice Committee of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology is conducting a survey to better understand current thoughts and expectations of practicing clinicians regarding what and how cost containment measures should be studied. The survey will request general demographics related to your training and administration of chemotherapy and then ask you to discuss your views on cost containment in gynecologic oncology. You will not be identified by name or institution and all data will be reported in the aggregate. We expect the survey to take 10 minutes to complete.

* 1. Which of the following statements are important for patients and providers to consider in addressing cost control in gynecologic oncology (Check all that apply)

Don’t screen low risk women with CA-125 or ultrasound for ovarian cancer.

Avoid routine imaging for cancer surveillance in women with gynecologic cancer, specifically, ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vulvar and vaginal.

Don’t perform Pap tests for surveillance on women with a history of endometrial cancer.

Don’t perform colposcopy in patients treated for cervical cancer with Pap tests of LGSIL or less.

Don’t use bevacizumab (off study) in up front ovarian cancer treatment.

Don’t perform lymphadenectomy in superficially invasive grade 1 endometrial cancer.

Don’t delay basic level palliative care for women with advanced or relapsed ovarian cancer and when appropriate, refer to specialty level palliative medicine.

Don’t perform robotic surgery for prophylactic bilateralsalpingoophorectomy.

Don’t check CA-125 for surveillance in asymptomatic women following remission in ovarian cancer.

Don’t administer chemotherapy in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer when there is a low expectation of clinical benefit.

Don’t administer chemotherapy in patients with an ECOG performance status of 3 or greater.

Don’t provide a fourth chemotherapy regimen, except for a clinical trial, after a patient has failed to respond to three prior regimens.

Don’t use PET imaging when cross sectional imaging (such as CT) demonstrates a recurrence of ovarian cancer.
