Study on Attraction and Satisfaction in Current and Past Relationships

Dear Potential Participant,

This study is being conducted by Ms. Samantha Penney, Dr. Kirsten Oinonen, and collaborators in the HHABLAB in the department of Psychology at Lakehead University. The main purpose of this study is to examine factors affecting satisfaction and attraction in current and past relationships. This data will be used in Samantha Penney’s honours thesis on this topic, and the data will also be used to examine other exploratory research questions in the area of health, mating, and development in the HHABLAB. This study will be conducted online and take 20 to 60 minutes to complete (depending on your speed and history). It involves answering personal questions about your relationships, health, sexual behaviour, and personality. There are no obvious risks involved in participating in this study other than the fact that some participants may feel uncomfortable answering some personal questions and it is possible that spending time answering questions about your current and past relationships may impact the way that you view those relationships. This study is open to Lakehead University students 16 years or older as well as members of the general public who are 18 years or older. Psychology 1100 students will receive one bonus point for participation.
Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and you have the right to withdraw at anytime without any penalty or explanation. All records of your participation will be kept confidential and reports of the study will not reveal your identity. There is no obligation to provide any identifying information, and such information is only requested from students at Lakehead in Introductory Psychology so that their bonus points can be provided. University regulations state that all data must be stored for a minimum of five years; data will be kept in a secure location by Dr. Oinonen and will remain confidential and anonymous. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the study please contact Ms. Samantha Penney or Dr. Oinonen. This study has been approved by the Lakehead University Ethics Board (807-343-8283).
At the end of the study, you can also provide your name and student number to receive a bonus point for Lakehead University Psychology 1100 students. This information will be separated from your responses as soon as that information can be recorded elsewhere. Upon completion of the study, interested participants are welcome to contact one of the researchers to request a summary of the results.

*Please note this is an unpaid survey*
