The National Center for Victims of Crime, with support from the Office on Violence Against Women, is pleased to announce a new and exciting FREE training opportunity on how to effectively follow-up and investigate cold case sexual assault CODIS hits. Attendees will be presented with information and resources to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities needed in resolving these CODIS hits, while ensuring a victim-sensitive and victim-centered response. The training, “Untested SAK Training: Investigation, Prosecution, and Victim Response,” will be held in Richfield, OH, just outside of Akron on March 18, 2014.

Who should attend:
Detectives, supervisors, prosecutors, advocates, and other professionals involved in working cold case CODIS hits.

Topics Covered:
Working in a multi-disciplinary team approach. Case review and prioritization. Cold case investigative strategies and follow up approaches. The brain and trauma: the impact on victim participation in the justice process. Understanding victimization in cold cases. Creating a victim-informed and victim-centered response. Prosecuting cold cases.

Please note that priority will be given to those professionals actively working on reactivated sexual assault kit cases.
