In order to help Ohio complete critical community projects that will make our state attractive to businesses and workers, a coalition is proposing state legislation called the Neighborhood Infrastructure Assistance Program. Ohio’s Neighborhood Infrastructure Assistance Program would authorize tax credits for monetary contributions invested in economic and community development projects undertaken by local governments and nonprofit corporations. During times of shrinking state and federal budgets, a Neighborhood Infrastructure Assistance Program remains competitive by leveraging private dollars and ensuring funding goes only to those projects that are catalytic and are rigorously screened for success.

15 states-including Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New Jersey-use this proven tool.

These programs leverage $2-$8 in private investment for every public dollar.

Credits can be used for donations to projects as diverse as renovating an historic theater, beautifying a central business district, lending microenterprise funds to first time entrepreneurs, developing affordable housing for seniors, or building a community center.

Only projects that are revenue-neutral, catalyze community revitalization, or leverage additional investment will be eligible. The Ohio Development Services Agency will award the tax credits to donating companies and corporations after the project is completed. For more information, please click here.
