Program Overview

El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), known as Día, is a celebration every day of children, families, and reading that culminates every year on April 30. Día honors children, their languages and culture; encourages reading and literacy; and promotes library collections and programs that reflect the country's changing populations.

Día events support literacy and bridge cultures through bilingual book displays and story hours, family literacy fairs, bilingual writing projects, and programs that will encourage parents to inspire their children to read. Idaho libraries can showcase their multicultural programs and services through Día celebrations.

The Commission proposes to help libraries engage and serve their local Hispanic families by supporting Día celebrations in Idaho. By providing libraries with promotional tools such as banners, posters, and paperback books, we are supporting their efforts to reach this underserved population.

ONLY THE FIRST 15 LIBRARIES TO APPLY WILL BE ACCEPTED. APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 2015

This program is sponsored by the Idaho Commission for Libraries' Read to Me program, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services with funding from LSTA (Library Services & Technology Act).
