You are invited to participate in a research study under entitled “Social Marketing Campaigns for College Men.” The study is being conducted by a team of researchers at The University of Texas at Austin, Department of Advertising and Public Relations. Taking part in this research is entirely voluntary. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a public health communication campaign among college-aged male students in the United States. You are free to contact the investigators at the addresses and phone number listed below to discuss the study. You must be a male who is 18 years of age or older to participate in this study.

If you agree to take part in this study, you will be randomly chosen to view 3 print advertisements from one of the following public health campaigns: “Where do you stand?,” “Don’t be that guy,” or “Movember.” The campaigns viewed may involve such topics as sexual assault, sexual harassment, etc. Afterwards you will be asked about your perceptions of the campaign. Your participation will require approximately 20-30 minutes. The total amount of time you will spend in connection with this study is around 20-30 minutes. You may refuse to answer any of the questions and you may stop your participation in this study at any time.

Possible risks or discomforts you could experience during this study include feeling some emotional discomfort answering the survey questions.

There will be no cost for participating in this research. Upon completion of the second phase of this study, you will be given extra credit for completing both parts of the study, If you would like to receive credit but do not want to participate in this study, please talk to your instructor about completing the alternative assignment. The alternative assignment should be equivalent in time and effort that would be needed to participate in this study.

All data obtained from participants will be kept confidential and will only be reported in an aggregate format (by reporting only combined results and never reporting individual ones). All questionnaires will be concealed and only the primary investigator and assistant researcher listed below will have access to them. Contact information will only be collected for purposes of sending a link for the second survey and giving the participant research credit.

Participation in this research study is completely voluntary. You have the right to withdraw at any time. If you desire to withdraw, your responses will be reviewed and may be accepted or rejected at the researchers’ discretion.
