The study in which you are invited to participate is designed to assess divergent thinking ability. This study is being conducted by Dr. James C. Kaufman, Associate Professor of Psychology at the California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). This study has been approved by the Department of Psychology Institutional Review Board Subcommittee of the California State University, San Bernardino, and this consent form should bear the official Psychology IRB stamp of approval. The University requires that you give your consent before participating in this study.
You will be asked to come up with different responses to open-ended questions. We anticipate this study will take approximately 30 minutes. All of your responses will be completely anonymous; your name will not be collected and the researcher will not share the data outside of the research project. If you are a CSUSB student, you will be asked to provide your name and SONA ID for extra credit points. Contact information for SONA extra credit will be stored separately from the survey responses in order to protect the anonymity of your responses. All data will be reported in group form only. Summary results of this study will be available no earlier than September 30, 2011.
Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You are free to withdrawal your participation at any time during the study without penalty. You are also free to remove any data at any time. This study entails no risk beyond those routinely encountered in daily life, nor does it provide any direct benefits to individual participants. When you complete the rating task, if you are a CSUSB psychology student, at your instructor’s discretion, you may receive 2 units of extra credit.
