Florida ARNP and Medicaid |
Medicaid credentialed Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs) in Florida have billed for primary care services rendered independent of a physician since implementation of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. State Medicaid Managed Care companies contracting with the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) in Florida will not assign patients to Medicaid credentialed ARNP’s, although ARNP’s credentialed by Medicaid provide primary care services to Medicaid recipients and are eligible to bill Medicaid independent of physicians.
In 2011, the Florida Legislature created Part IV of Chapter 409, Florida Statutes, directing the Agency for Health Care Administration to create the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program. Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP’s) credentialed and compensated by Medicaid as individual clinicians are now denied the privilege of continuing to provide primary care services to patients unless reimbursement of benefits are reassigned to a physician or physician group.
Questions below are intended to help FNPN gather information about Medicaid credentialed ARNP billing practices in Florida. To complete this survey, you will need to know if an individual Medicaid provider number (not NPI) is assigned to your name and how that number is being used to bill for services rendered by you (i.e., as an individual or has your Medicaid provider number been reassigned to a group).
Your willingness to help assess Medicaid credentialed ARNPs ability increase access to care for Medicaid recipient’s is appreciated. Please complete this survey once and answer each question based on your or the employer billing Florida Medicaid.
Thank you for you time.
