INFORMATION TO PARTICIPANTS
INVOLVED IN RESEARCH

You are invited to participate in a research project entitled: Student decision making for banking services: an exploratory study.

This project is being conducted by Dr. Roberto Bergami, Senior Lecturer, Practice of International Trade, from the Faculty of Business and Law at Victoria University and Dr Johan Coetzee, Senior Lecturer in Banking nad Economics, Department of Economics at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

Project explanation

This project aims to gather information from university students about banking services that are available to them in Australia. This projects aims to gain a better understanding of the types of services used, why students choose particular banks and services and their likes and dislikes about particular banks and the services they offer.

What will I be asked to do?

You are being asked to participate in this project by completing an anonymous electronic survey. It is expected that the survey will be completed in less than 30 minutes.

What will I gain from participating?

Your participation will enable you to provide answers to a range of questions that are designed to discover what banking services are perceived to be of benefit to currently enrolled university students. The information you provide will form part of a wider enquiry with the student population across Australia, as this is a nation-wide project. The information from this project will be summarised and de-identified, and published in relevant academic and other journals. The public output may be a catalyst for changes being implemented in the banking industry as a result of our findings. For you as an individual this may result in the future provision of banking services that may be more appropriate to your needs.

How will the information I give be used?

The data gathered in this project will be used for publication purposes in academic journals, textbooks and other suitable outlets. The publications should inform the wider community, and in particular banks, about the issues and challenges surrounding the the provision of banking services to university students in Australia.

What are the potential risks of participating in this project?

The researchers do not believe there are any risks involved in participating in this project. Participation is voluntary and confidentiality and anonymity are assured. Publication will only be in the form of aggregated data and no individual will be named or be able to be identified as a result of any publication.

How will this project be conducted?

You are being asked to participate in this project by completing an anonymous survey. Your details will not be disclosed during the submission of your data. As participation is anonymous we will not be able to contact you again.
