In 2012, the UN General Assembly requested "the Secretary-General to [present] a plan of action to be developed by the United Nations Volunteers programme to integrate volunteering in peace and development in the next decade and beyond [...]." A/RES/67/138.

UNV has put together a Zero Draft of the 10 year Plan of Action 2016 - 2025 to integrate volunteering in policies and programmes through a more purposeful and strategic collective long-term approach. This draft takes into account a variety of input and feedback received from a wide range of stakeholders since the International Year of Volunteers (IYV) in 2001 and particularly during its tenth anniversary in 2011 and beyond.

The Zero Draft identifies the following areas for collective action:

  1. Strengthening recognition of volunteerism
  2. Strengthening enabling environments for volunteerism
  3. Integrating volunteerism into strategies, policies and the implementation of the emerging Post-2015 Development Agenda
  4. Strengthening the evidence base for the impact of volunteerism
  5. Exchanging volunteer practices in different areas using innovative methods
  6. Expanding existing partnerships

We are now seeking your feedback on the Zero Draft to reflect your views in the next draft Plan. To facilitate and focus the consultation, we have developed four questions.

We kindly ask you to respond by 15 January 2015. Results will be shared with United Nations Member States for further inputs before submission to the UN General Assembly in mid-2015.
