Mission & Purpose
YWCA Glendale and Pasadena (YWCAGP) is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Our purpose is to ensure the health, safety, and economic empowerment of women, children and families and to strengthen communities to prevent and break the cycle of domestic violence.

Position Description
Serving on the YWCAGP Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for strategic and future focused leaders who are passionate about the YWCA's mission and purpose. The primary role of the Board is to provide mission-based visionary leadership and strategic governance to enhance the services and supports provided to over 3000 women and children served annually.

Board Member Responsibilities
  • Make YWCA a philanthropic priority and make an annual gift of $1,000 (give or get) or more to reflect that priority.
  • Help shape the direction of the YWCAGP through its mission, strategy and key policies.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO in the development and implementation of the YWCAGP's strategic plan.
  • Ensure the organizational leadership, resources and finances are commensurate to help the YWCAGP achieve and sustain positive outcomes.
  • Review outcomes and metrics created by YWCAGP and regularly measure organizational performance, impact and effectiveness using those metrics.
  • Approve the annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions.
  • Be informed, participatory, act in good faith, and meet all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Contribute to an annual performance evaluation of the CEO.
  • Assist the CEO and Board President in identifying and recruiting board members of influence and affluence.
  • Serve on committees or task forces and take on special assignments to enhance the organization’s efforts.
  • Represent YWCA Glendale and Pasadena to stakeholders and serve as an Ambassador for the organization.
  • Ensure YWCA Glendale and Pasadena's commitment to a diverse board and staff.
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge and support of the YWCA’s mission, purpose and strategic direction.
  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy or the non-profit sector combined with willingness to access personal and professional networks on behalf of the YWCA.
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of others.
Application Process
Although applications to the Board of Directors may be submitted at any time, the deadline for submission of application for this year’s Board of Directors selection process is March 27, 2023.

Once the application is submitted a staff member will be in contact with the applicant to submit biography and to schedule a meeting with CEO or member of the Governance Committee.
