Wisbech Town Board has generated the draft Wisbech Regeneration Plan based on feedback and data from a range of consultations and studies in the town over the past decade.

This survey aims to confirm the proposals in the plan remain a current reflection of what really matters to local people.

Section 1: Vision and Priorities

Our data said Wisbech should be safer, cleaner and prouder of its heritage. We plan to invest in heritage buildings, public spaces and community facilities.

“By 2035, Wisbech will emerge as a rejuvenated and vibrant town, returning to its status as a prosperous anchor in the Fens – celebrated for its safety, community and outstanding heritage.

Our vision is to drive a comprehensive regeneration effort utilising historic and geographic assets such as parks, the river and the Town Centre. We aspire to create a dynamic environment where residents and visitors alike enjoy an enhanced quality of life and a renewed sense of community.

Wisbech will harness its rich heritage as a foundation for growth, integrating thoughtful urban planning and development to revitalise public spaces, improve infrastructure, and boost local businesses. Our goal is to transform Wisbech into a more attractive and functional town, with modern facilities and improved connectivity that put Wisbech on the map. The town will be driven by an ambitious Town Board which will seek investment into the town at every opportunity. This will create jobs and skills for young people and ensure everyone will share in our new prosperity.

Success will be measured through monitoring of improvements in infrastructure and public spaces, increased economic activity, a surge in public engagement, and a reduction in anti-social behaviour.

Indicators of progress will include rising property values, expanded business opportunities, positive feedback from the community and a reduction in crime statistics. Increased foot traffic in revitalised areas will reflect our success in creating a town that meets the needs of its residents while attracting new visitors.

By 2035, Wisbech will be a thriving, well-integrated town that proudly celebrates its heritage and embraces a future of growth and opportunity.”

Q2. You said the town centre should be more welcoming and vibrant. We plan to improve vacant sites, amenities and green spaces. These improvements will encourage more people to use the town centre.(Required.)

Q3. You said local heritage and culture are Wisbech’s greatest strengths. We plan to restore key areas within the town to bring them back into use. Protecting and celebrating heritage should remain a top priority.(Required.)

Section 2: Safety and Community

Q4. You said antisocial behaviour and crime discourage town centre visits. We plan to introduce CCTV and uniformed street wardens. These measures will improve safety and confidence in the town centre.(Required.)

Q5. Wardens form a key part of our ongoing engagement with the public and our target of reducing antisocial behaviour. Where in the town centre do you feel warden presence is most required?(Required.)

Q6. You said a stronger community presence is needed. We plan to support local volunteer and neighbourhood initiatives. Community-led activity is important to making Wisbech feel safer and increasing pride in the town.(Required.)

Q7. You said there are not enough activity spaces for the community. We plan to enhance leisure, sport and youth facilities, and create new community spaces in the town. Investment in facilities for community benefit should be a key regeneration priority.(Required.)

Section 3: Local Economy and Skills

Q8. You said more local jobs and business support are needed. We plan to offer small business grants and develop new small industrial units. These initiatives will help create and sustain local employment.(Required.)

Section 4: Place and Environment

Section 6: Communication and Delivery

Q13. You said local people should be able to be informed and involved. We plan to provide regular updates through meetings, the website and social media as well as ongoing consultation as the plan is delivered over time. Communication will keep residents well informed about progress across the town.(Required.)

Q14. You said decisions should be transparent and accountable. We plan to publish Board minutes and agendas on the Town Board website. This will give me confidence that the Town Board is being open and transparent.(Required.)
