Trick-or-Street Expression of Interest (EOI) Form for Schools |
Apply today to host a Trick-or-Street Event this October!
Trick-or-Streets is a seasonal festival sponsored by NYC DOT that transforms the city streets into car free festive spaces. NYC DOT would love to collaborate with schools on fun and engaging seasonal events that promote the pedestrian use of our most vast public space – NYC streets!
NYC DOT asks that schools fill out the form below to demonstrate interest in joining this month-long celebration. Please note this form is an expression of interest, and submission of an application does not guarantee approval. NYC DOT may be able to provide a range of different supports to schools hosting a Trick-or-Streets event, such as metal barriers, technical assistance, and programming for approved Trick-or-Street events. School partners are responsible for organizing and executing their own event, programming, and permits once the EOI has been approved.
Eligible Applicants:

Eligible Applicants:
- Existing Open Streets: Schools may host a Trick-or-Streets event any time throughout the month of October, beginning on Thursday, October 1 and continuing through Saturday, October 31.
- All schools interested in hosting a Trick-or-Streets event are encouraged to apply.
- All community organizations working with schools that are interested in hosting a Trick-or-Streets event are encouraged to apply.
- Interested participants may submit a single application for multiple events within the one-month period, but approval for all events is not guaranteed.
- Corridors on a bus route, truck route, or major thoroughfare may not qualify or may only operate on weekends.
Event Requirements:
- Schools must adhere to all NYC DOT and Street Activity Permit Office (SAPO) guidance and requirements.
- Events should prioritize pedestrians. We strongly discourage activations involving cars, trucks, and other oversized vehicles.
- Schools must put up barriers, monitor them throughout the evening, and take them down at the conclusion of the event.
- Existing Open Streets: Schools and Plaza partners should use the metal barriers they already have.
Permitting Process:
- Partners interested in participating must submit this Expression of Interest form by Friday, September 18 at 5pm.
- SAPO applications must include "Trick-or-Streets" in the Event Name field.
- NYC DOT and SAPO will review all responses and will approve final list of participating sites by late September.
The deadline to apply for Trick-or-Streets is Friday, September 18 at 5:00pm.
