Trans Bodies, Trans Selves is an all-inclusive resource guide written by and for transgender and gender expansive (T/GE) people. The first edition was published in 2014 and included voices from thousands of T/GE-identified people by interspersing quotes collected from an anonymous survey throughout the text.

For the second edition of Trans Bodies, Trans Selves, the editors are releasing a new survey to once again collect the stories of T/GE people in the form of anonymous quotes, which will enrich this edition with the voices of thousands of people across the spectrum of gender identities.

Because the first edition of the survey was so successful (over 3,000 responses), and there is so little research into the lives of trans and gender expansive people, the second edition of the survey will also be used as part of research into the lives, health, and well-being of T/GE people. Many research studies are driven by hypotheses written by the researchers. Our research will simply analyze survey responses in order to better understand trans and gender expansive people in their own words.

The following survey is anonymous. Demographic information is required. None of the open-ended questions are required, so you may leave any of those questions blank or write as much as you like.

Please write in full sentences - this makes it easier to use your quotes in the final book.

Many questions refer to T/GE life, which stands for transgender and gender expansive. In this survey, T/GE will be used as an umbrella term to cover a wide range of gender identities and experiences. If you identify as trans or gender expansive, we welcome you to complete this survey!

This survey may take longer than 30 minutes of your time. Depending on how many questions you choose to answer or how thorough your answers are, the survey can vary in length, but it does take a significant amount of time to complete.
