We want to hear what you think about concepts to improve the Downtown Salem sidewalk environment! Take this short 5-10 minute survey and let us know your thoughts on the four concepts.

Over the last six months, we heard from hundreds of sidewalk users, business owners, and other community members about their hopes, ideas, and vision for Salem's downtown streetscape. There is broad community support for a downtown streetscape that creates a simple, timeless, and consistent look for our sidewalks, allowing the unique character of Downtown Salem to shine.

An open house was held on April 18 to share design elements and get community input on four specific concepts. We would like more feedback on these concepts as we incorporate all the public comments into the plan and prepare to adopt the Downtown Streetscape Plan in fall 2018.

The concepts you will see in this survey were developed based on community input, the existing downtown environment and character, and practical considerations. We are also guided by goals that public input has helped shape over the months:

The downtown streetscape should:
  • Knit downtown together.
  • Celebrate the landscape and brighten downtown.
  • Integrate wayfinding and art.
  • Establish and support social spaces.
