Every five years our Iowa Developmental Disabilities Council (DD Council) writes what is called a State Plan. It describes what work we will do and how we will spend the federal money we get.

The DD Council wants to hear from you!
What would you like to see us work on? Your input will help us write the goals of our plan.

We will work on self-advocacy, but we may choose to also work on employment, community living, education, health, housing and transportation.

The federal government says we need to help certain groups of people within the larger group of individuals with Intellectual Disabilities or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD).

These groups might need extra support with things like speaking up for themselves, living in the community, going to school, finding jobs, staying healthy, finding housing, or getting transportation.

Some examples of these groups are:
  • People who are blind.
  • People with I/DD living in rural areas.
  • People with I/DD from different cultures.
  • People of color.
  • People who are deaf or hard of hearing.
These are just a few examples—there may be other groups we haven’t mentioned. If you know of others, please let us know.
