Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete this confidential survey. It is intended only for residents of the Town of Silt who receive trash and recycling services through the Town. Your input will be used to assist the Silt Board of Trustees to determine how much value our current recycling program offers to its citizens.

I think the present system is good and should continue at the current cost per customer of about $5.50 per month.

* Silt’s recycle program collected 348 tons of recycling in 2020.
* This represents a diversion of 19% of material to the landfill and compares to the City of Rifle at
21% and New Castle at 17%.
* The recycling program with which Silt contracts provides for about 25 jobs in our valley.

I think the Town of Silt should eliminate curbside recycling collection resulting in a utility cost that is approximately $5.50 lower per month per customer.

* The cost to our provider of recycling has increased from $26/ton in 2019 to $83/ton in 2020 due to
international trade conflicts.
* The cost of recycling has now stabilized after this dramatic increase.

Establish a Community Recycle Center at a $4/month charge assessed to ALL Silt utility customers, regardless of whether they use the service.

*The Town would seek to break even on this service, but would likely need to employ one person
to manage the facility.

Allow Residents to subscribe and pay for their own curb side recycling services; resulting in a rate of $12 to $16 per home per month.

* Residents would contract directly with the provider of this service who would price it based on the
total number of participants. The more participants, the lower of the fee.
