Survey Information

We are collecting information on standardized surveys with repeated measures used to evaluate biological diversity, focused specifically on non-indigenous species (NIS), in coastal marine and estuarine communities. Our aim is to evaluate the distribution and frequency of active Sentinel Site surveys used to detect non-indigenous species by habitat type and method. Results from this survey, along with a literature review, will inform opportunities for data sharing and collaboration across networks of Sentinel Site surveyors.

Participation in this survey is voluntary and including personal information (name and/or email address) will be optional. All responses will be kept confidential and used solely for research purposes. We will not contact you directly following the survey unless specifically requested. Please review the Smithsonian Institution’s Privacy Statement for more information.

This survey will take no more than 20 minutes. Additional time should be allocated if your work involves multiple Sentinel Sites. Please complete it before May 15, 2024, and share it with any colleagues who may be doing relevant work.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our research group from the Marine Invasions Research Laboratory at SERCSentinelSurvey@si.edu.
