Paper or Poster Session Proposal Submission
DUE WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 1st, 2019

Thank you for submitting a proposal to present at the Fourth Annual San Diego Professional Palliative Care Conference. Our 2019 theme is "Changing Tides: Innovation in Palliative Care." This conference will take place from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7th, 2019 on the campus of California State University San Marcos. The CSU Institute for Palliative Care at CSUSM and the San Diego Coalition for Compassionate Care are very excited to be hosting this opportunity for local professional health care providers to come together to share experience and wisdom about Palliative Care in San Diego county. Last year we had a great slate of presenters from a variety of health care professions. We look forward to reviewing this year's applications. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY 11:59 p.m. PST, Friday, February 8th, 2019.

Our keynote speaker is Dr. Lucy Kalanithi, MD, FACP, widow of the late Dr. Paul Kalanithi, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir, "When Breath Becomes Air," for which she wrote the epilogue. An internal medicine physician and faculty member at the Stanford School of Medicine, Dr. Kalanithi has special interests in healthcare value, meaning in medicine, and patient-centered care.  Dr. Kalanithi will share her insights and work during a moderated discussion that will likely captivate attendees.

In keeping with this year’s theme, we are seeking paper and poster proposals that illustrate innovative approaches or discoveries in Palliative Care for both current and future professionals.  This includes:

Advance Care Planning with Special Populations
Integrative Therapies

Spirituality
How technology is used to deliver palliative care
Innovative and successful palliative care approaches

The best presentations are a good blend of didactic presentation and interaction. Above all, they must be actionable – providing attendees with real-life tools and learning they can immediately use to improve their understanding and practice of Palliative Care. Palliative Care includes advance care planning, pain & symptom management, relief of suffering in all dimensions, improved quality of life, and support for persons with serious illness and their families. Breakout paper and poster sessions will be one hour in length, but we strongly recommend allowing 10 to 15 minutes of the time for questions.

If your proposal is selected, all presenters will receive a 25% discount off the regular registration fee. We welcome single or co-presenters for breakout sessions, but no more than three people per presentation and only one designated presenter per poster, please. Breakout session and poster presenters will receive no travel or expense reimbursements. You will be notified of the status of your application by March 1, 2019.

PowerPoint/Poster Materials: We will be providing continuing education units for doctors (application pending), nurses, social workers, psychologists, and chaplains. Final presentation materials (slides, handouts, etc.) must be submitted for CME/CE review by a hard deadline of May 1st, 2019; if materials are not submitted by the deadline, the presentation/poser will be dropped from the program. Permission to use any material borrowed in whole or substance from another source, especially graphics, video or audio clips, must accompany your final materials, and all data, facts, models, and other items of substance not of your own creation must be properly cited. Please note, presenters are responsible for furnishing any handouts
