Feedback submission form

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is proposing to change its information sharing arrangements with the New Zealand Customs Service to avoid overpayments for seniors when they travel overseas, so they don't come home to a debt.

At the moment, people can get extra payments like the Winter Energy Payment and Disability Allowance while overseas for up to 28 days.

For people getting New Zealand Superannuation or a Veteran's Pension, under the Privacy Act, MSD needs to give 10 days' notice before these extra payments can be stopped.  This means people can be paid too much and have to pay the money back.

MSD wants to change this process so it can legally suspend payments without notice on the day after eligibility for the extra payment ends.

This is something MSD already does with people getting payments like Jobseeker Support.

This change does not affect New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran’s Pension payments, which can be paid to people travelling overseas for up to 26 weeks.

If you'd like to give feedback on this possible change, please fill out this form before 25 January 2019.

Please note: the results of this survey may be released for public information. However, MSD will not release your individual responses or any information that can identify you. Please let us know in if you do not want any information from this feedback form released. You can do this by leaving a comment at the bottom of this form.
