Section Five - Ngā Uara (Values)
This section is to be completed by the applicant.
The 28th (Māori) Battalion were renowned for their skills and bravery in the Second World War. One of their battles was for the right to be considered equal in their own country. This is known as the ‘Price of Citizenship’ (see: Soutar, M., 2008, Ngā Tama Toa: The Price of Citizenship). A powerful reminder that their sacrifice was tied not only to war, but to the right to be seen, valued, and accepted as individuals.
With the contribution of the Ngarimu VC and the 28th (Māori) Battalion in mind, please discuss one of the following uara:
Whanaungatanga
How do you see your educational pursuits connecting and empowering your whānau/hapū and/or communities?
Rangatiratanga
How do you display and enact leadership? When have you needed to make courageous decisions?
Tuakiritanga
How does the work you do (study or otherwise) contribute to an aspect of Te Ao Māori? What are your aspirations for te iwi Māori?
