SIU Carbondale Extern Program - Host Application
Thank you for your interest in the SIU Carbondale Extern Program!
Established in 1984, the Extern Program provides students with professional experience in their chosen career fields. Each year, SIU students are matched with SIU alumni and/or supporters and complete externships throughout the U.S. They apply skills learned in the classroom in a professional work environment. The program is individualized and enhances the student's education.
This is an unpaid and not-for-credit experience for students. However, hosts are welcome to provide financial assistance to help students for costs they may incur.
The 2024 Extern Program takes place between March 9 - 17, 2024. As a host employer, you have control over how many students you host, and when you host them. Typically, our host employers host externs for two-three days, but if possible, we encourage employers to host the students for a full workweek.
