Film Independent -- Call for Stories

A nationwide coalition led by Film Independent and the International Documentary Association is working to modify an exemption to the copyright laws that would allow all filmmakers to access (or “rip”) material on DVDs, Blu-ray, and digitally transmitted video for fair use purposes. Fair use is the limited right to repurpose copyrighted material in making new work, in certain situations. There is an exemption currently in effect – but it only applies to documentary filmmakers. We think it should apply to all filmmakers making fair use. By taking this short survey, you will be helping us gather information about how filmmakers make fair use today and why we need to be able to access a range of encrypted materials in order to do so. For more information on our petition, please view our guest blog post here. Thank you for your help!

Question Title

* In the future, do you anticipate “ripping” from media for fair use purposes in the creation of a film?
