Informed Consent Statement

You are invited to take part in a doctoral research study which is comparing motivation levels and ambition values between young women with and without children.  The researcher is inviting women, who are biologically female, between the 18 and 24 years old, have given birth to at least one live child or who are child-free—have not given birth, to participate in the study.  This form is part of a process called “informed consent” to allow you to understand this study before deciding whether or not to take part. This study is being conducted by a researcher named Deirdre Jones-Lowman, who is a doctoral student at Walden University.

Background Information:

The purpose of this study is to compare motivation levels and ambition values between two groups:  young women with  children and  child-free young women, between the ages of 18-24 years old.

You will be asked to anonymously complete an online survey questionnaires: which includes the Aspirations Questionnaire and the Intrinsic Motivation Questionnaire.  It will take between 20-25 minutes to complete the surveys.  Please read each question in its entirety and answer each question. You will be asked not to discuss the survey questionnaires with anyone. Because data is collected anonymously, data will be collected one time.

Voluntary Nature of the Study:

This study is voluntary. You are free to accept or turn down the invitation. No one at Walden University will treat you differently if you decide not to be in the study. If you decide to be in the study now, you can still change your mind before submitting the questionnaire. However, only fully completed surveys can be used and if there are questions you do not want to answer, you can discontinue the survey at any time by closing out your browser.  The researcher seeks 250 volunteers: 125 teen mothers and 125 child-free women for this study.

There is no cost to participate in the study.  Because the survey is conducted online, participants may access the survey questionnaires twenty-four hours, 7 days a week.

Risks and Benefits of Being in the Study:

Being in this study may pose a minimal risk to your safety or wellbeing. This study offers no direct benefits to individual volunteers. The purpose of the study is to explore whether giving birth or not giving birth contributes to significant changes in intrinsic motivation levels and active aspirations (ambition) between two groups

There will be no monetary compensation or payments for study participants.
