CoMHWA Strategic Plan Input

We are in the process of reviewing our Strategic Plan and we want you to have your say.

We would now like you to give us your feedback via a scale rating between 2 opposite ends of a question. You will notice that the explanations of scores 1 and 10 are quite extreme. That is deliberate as we want you to consider what is the right balance between the two options. There is no right answer. This is just how you feel about CoMHWA’s future direction.

For an example only:
Where should we focus our efforts over the next 5 years?
1 = Focus only on improving existing services
10 = Focus only on developing new and innovative services
A member selects 4 on the scale.

What this means: They believe our future direction should lean more towards strengthening our existing services, but with some room for innovation. It's not an either/or. They see value in both, with a bit more emphasis on what we're already doing.
1.Where should we focus our attention when advocating to Government and their agencies, service providers and other decision makers?

1 - Means only working on Change in the Current system.

We focus on working within the current system to achieve change in current services/support and policies, rather than pushing for radical transformation.

10 - Means only working towards Transforming the system.

We advocate solely for radical system change aligned with consumer movement ideals – nothing less.

2.Should our systemic advocacy efforts be focused more on improving services and legislation, or with front line service providers?

1 - would mean we focus entirely on front line service providers and practitioners as we think this is where change will happen (Micro level)

10 - would mean we focus entirely on legislation and policy as the drivers of change for consumers (Macro level)

3.What direction should we be taking as a community services organisation?

1 - would mean we are a purely systemic advocacy organisation and only have direct contact with consumers to gather feedback and input to policy. We would be supported by Core funding from the Commission. We would be a Peak only (CoMHWA in 2013).

10 - would mean we are a pure service provider delivering one-to-one, consumer facing services and supports. We would be funded via grants and service provision income (i.e Neami, Richmond Wellbeing).

4.How important is it for us to have a high public profile to influence change?

1 - would mean we can meet our goals through direct relationships with stakeholders like politicians, government staff, or mental health service providers.

10 - would mean we only deliver our messages and impact through directly communicating to the general public via media channels to enact change.

5.How broad do you think our target beneficiary group should be (the people who benefit from CoMHWA and our services)?

1 - would mean a very tight focus on people with a significant lived experience of mental health issues who have been direct consumers of the tertiary mental health system.

10 - would mean everyone who would ever access any type of mental health service or be affected by social determinants.
