The sister city relationship between Genoa, Italy and Columbus, Ohio has been in place since 1955. To celebrate this unique partnership, Greater Columbus Sister Cities International in partnership with the City of Columbus, will host a regional pesto championship at the 2017 Columbus Italian Festival. Every two years, the Palatifini Cultural Association hosts the World Pesto Championship in Genoa, Italy, where pesto originated. One hundred competitors from around the world gather to compete in order to gain the prestigious title of World Pesto Champion. This is the first year that Columbus is participating. 

To determine the finalist who will represent Columbus at the World Pesto Championship, ten participants will be selected to compete at the Columbus Italian Festival on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. The winner of the Columbus Pesto Championship will have travel expenses covered so that they can represent Columbus, Ohio at the Pesto World Championship in Genoa, Italy on March 18, 2018.
