What is the NPP?
The Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP) is a five-year grant from the NJ Department of Community Affairs that is designed to generate visible, tangible change in the Downtown Neighborhood driven by local residents and business owners. Downtown Trenton (from Route 1 to N Willow Street, Lafayette to Perry Streets) is one of 40 NPP areas statewide.
 
What is the NPP Business Facade Program?
This grant can be used to make exterior improvements to businesses in the NPP, which can include, but not limited to:
  • Commercial signs
  • Awnings
  • Lighting
Am I eligible to apply?
  • Business owners must be located within the Downtown Trenton NPP area (see map below).
  • Rolling deadline, beginning January 1.  Projects need to be complete by December 16, 2024.
  • Applications will be reviewed and awarded by the NPP Stakeholders Group
  • Applicants are responsible for complying with all City, State, and Federal requirements for permits and approval.
  • An NPP Grant may be used in conjunction with other grants or personal funds. This information must be disclosed on the completed application.
  • A designated contractor by isles will be provided to the property owner to design and install facade improvements.
How much is the grant for?
  • Projects up to $5,000
  • Paid directly to the contractor (50% upfront, 50% upon completion)
