The Council has an Active Travel Action Plan which sets out a range of actions aimed at encouraging both walking and cycling. One of the objectives of the Active Travel Action Plan is to develop a “family network” of cycle routes, mainly on quiet roads and off-street. This network aims to feel safe and secure for less confident cyclists including family groups and older unsupervised children.

The Meadows to Innocent Path proposals form a key link in the Family Network, connecting the Meadows to the Innocent Railway National Cycle Route 1.

Overview of proposals

The proposal is to join up North Meadow Walk with the Innocent path that follows an old railway route to Duddingston, Brunstane and Musselburgh using:

• Side streets
• New and relocated road crossings, and
• Sections of pedestrian and cycle path.

The aim is to create a better connection on foot as well as by cycle.

More details, including plans, are provided on the next pages and we’d like to know what your views are now, as we may be able to make changes that you want before starting the legal processes necessary to implement the proposals.

The closing date for this survey is Monday 16 December.
