Survey on the use of mastitis therapy and recommendations on dairy cattle

What is the objective of the survey?
Within the framework of its activities addressing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the IDF Standing Committee on Animal Health and Welfare and the IDF Task Force on AMR are gathering information on the treatment options and recommendations given for mastitis and the frameworks around them. The information gathered will be used to prepare an overview of current practices in the dairy sector and/or guidance material on the best practices to reduce the overuse and misuse of antimicrobials in animal production and on how to optimise herd management to lower risk levels as when prophylactic antimicrobials were used.

We aim to have a better understanding of:
the recommendations on therapy for severe and mild clinical cases of mastitis, and at drying off; the administration patterns and antibiotics used for mastitis therapy; the legal frameworks regulating and the use of treatment options; and the improvements on herd management that lower the risk factors in the view of an antibiotic shield removal.
