Senior Connection Center is currently accepting nominations for their annual Salt & Pepper Outstanding Senior Awards. These awards were created as a tribute to the late Honorable Claude Pepper, whose commitment to improving the lives of seniors and whose accomplishments as an older American continue to inspire us today.

Who is eligible? Any individual, age 60 or older, who resides in Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee, Highlands, or Hardee County and who is nominated by a member of the community based on the criteria listed for any of the following categories: Health & Wellness, Arts & Entertainment, Business & Entrepreneurship, Community Service & Volunteerism. Philanthropist of the Year must be age 60 or older and may reside outside SCC's service area if their philanthropist activities have a local focus. Five winners will be selected by the Senior Connection Center Event Planning Committee.
Awards will be presented at the Rise & Shine Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 21, 2024
Deadline for submission is April 30, 2024

Community Service & Volunteerism

This award recognizes an individual whose personal dedication and history of donating their time, expertise, service and/or talent has had a positive impact on improving the local community in a unique or significant way. Their efforts can include directly helping individuals of any age and/or volunteering at a service organization, school, or community program or project.

Business & Entrepreneurship

This award will be given to someone who has done outstanding professional work with either a private or public company or through their own business. Special consideration will be given to someone who started a business or made a career change later in life and/or had a significant professional accomplishment after age 60.

Health & Wellness

This award will be given to someone who is either a role model for living a healthy life or who has been involved in advancing the health and wellness of the community through their personal or professional achievements. This can include experience or involvement in health education, healthcare, or personal fitness.

Arts & Entertainment

This award will be given to someone who is an artist and actively involved in creating art including visual art, music, literature, poetry, theater, and/or other performance arts, or someone who is committed to advancing the arts in our community.


Philanthropist of the Year

This award will be given to someone age 60 or older whose personal generosity and/or philanthropic leadership within a business, foundation, or civic organization has led to improving the lives of older adults or persons with disabilities within SCC's service area in a unique or significant way. The scope of their philanthropic influence should be primarily local, but can also have a national or global impact.
