White-tailed deer are a natural component of the Sioux Falls ecosystem. Many people develop an emotional bond with deer while others have expressed concern that the deer are a threat to their real and personal property. Deer can also be a safety hazard on the roadways. In 2014 the Sioux Falls Police Department Animal Control division developed a deer management plan with the cooperation of the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. The management plan contains guidance for monitoring the deer populations and car-deer accidents, implementing a deer feeding ban, reduction of the deer population in targeted areas. One component of the plan is a survey of the public every five years.  This survey can be completed online and will be open until November 13, 2020.
