WestEd provides leadership and other coaching services to states, districts, community-based organizations and other entities in service to educators. As part of our service, we gather data on coaching provision, which helps us to:
  • Reflect on client services, through cycles of inquiry;
  • Document our work for clients; and
  • Gauge the impact of our work.
Your work as an educator coach is essential. We are asking you to complete this coaching log within three business days of coaching session. The coaching log requires about 20 minutes to complete each time, and coaching log completion is a part of your responsibilities as coach. Your coaching contract includes time to complete the log.

The coaching log asks you to note:

  • How much time was spent coaching principals and others;
  • Who participated in a coaching session;
  • What type(s) of coaching activities in each session;
  • What objective(s) were addressed through coaching; and
  • Who agreed to do what, as a result of coaching.
Please make a log entry for any "consequential" interaction with your coachee. A consequential interaction includes one-on-one, small/regional group sessions, video/phone call, or other activities aimed at advancing principal supervision lasting 15 minutes or more time. A “consequential interaction” is not, for instance, a short call about meeting logistics, a personal conversation, or a conversation about non-SOPA content.

  • If you are coaching for multiple projects, select the project name on this page in order to complete the log for that project. While project coaching logs may include similar items, there are also differences between logs.
  • If you are working with multiple coachees in a single session, select all of the coachees that attended the session.
  • If you do not have a consequential interaction with someone during the month, please do not complete a log entry for them.
  • If you have more than one consequential interaction, then submit multiple log entries.
  • If you're convening a team coaching session, make a log entry for every person in that session.
