Background

Thank you for your contribution to the Housing and Economic Rights Advocates’ Probate Survey! HERA is a California statewide, not-for-profit legal service and advocacy organization dedicated to helping Californians — particularly those most vulnerable — build a safe, sound financial future, free of discrimination and economic abuses, in all aspects of household financial concerns. For more information, visit our website here.

HERA is researching the impact of probate on California households. When an individual dies intestate - without a will or trust - their loved ones must go through probate court to inherit their estate. From excessive out-of-pocket fees to accessibility barriers for legal services, navigating the probate process can be long and arduous.

If you went through probate or have inherited a home without a will or trust, please complete this survey. Your response would greatly assist us in gathering insight on the probate process in California and advocating for policy change to alleviate the burden on households in navigating and avoiding probate court. This survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete.

Confidentiality Statement: HERA is committed to protecting your data. No personally identifiable information is captured unless you voluntarily offer personal or contact information in any of the comment fields. Your information will not be made public.
